"Ron Nelson opened the first Family Tree Nursery at 85th Street and Farley in 1964 as a wholesale growing operation supplying other retailers with high-quality gift plants, including poinsettias and mums. His passion for plants helped the business grow into three retail locations: the original Overland Park store, the Shawnee store acquired in 1981, and the Liberty store added in 1988. Family Tree Nursery expanded its operations with its first growing facility in 1986 and a second in 2019. That same year, Café Equinox opened at the Shawnee location, and today we are excited to celebrate the grand opening of Café Equinox inside our Overland Park location."
